Svetlana Bunic
The compelling realm of music and musical performance is one which has consistently engaged Svetlana Bunic over the past 20 years.
A seasoned (3 x ARIA awarded) Midi-Accordionist, Composer, Musical Director and Multi-Instrumentalist (guitar, bass, ukelele and percussion), Svetlana’s music has framed live international circus theatre, underscored film and documentaries and thrilled audiences worldwide in a kaleidoscope of exotic music ensembles: Monsieur Camembert, Darth Vegas, Christa Hughes, Vulgargrad and Circus Oz.
Throughout her performance trajectory, Svetlana has always sought ways to involve a variety of participants in the joy of music making; with Indigenous youth through regional and outback community schools and programs, with Mexican youth in urban, socially marginalized ghettos and with women in prison to name a few.
In 2009, Svetlana hooked up with dynamic Djembe drummer and World Percussionist, Shon Klose and Ba-Boom! was born; a Mobile Music Factory for Youth in Remote or Regional Areas.
Teaching Ensemble Drumming, music fundamentals, instrumental tuition, performance practice and digital recording techniques, Ba-Boom! have inspired thousands of young people in many Central Desert communities to express themselves and excel in music. Some of the Youth (from Ikuntji, Finke-Apatula, Ltyentye Apurte and Marree) have gone all the way to perform on festival stages to great acclaim.
Through Ba-Boom! and through music, in schools and out of school, Svetlana is dedicated to mentoring Youth.
As Ba-Boom! Svetlana, and colleague Shon, continuously endeavour to inspire pride, joy, confidence and unity in the young and the brave in those dusty, soulful, faraway places.
